§ 29-57. Historic designation.

  • (a)

    Commission authority. The historic preservation commission shall have the authority to compile and collect information, conduct surveys of historic resources within the city, and recommend districts, buildings and properties to city council for designation as being historic. The commission shall present to the city council any such nominations for historic districts and historic properties.

    (b)

    Application. A historical society, neighborhood association, or group of property owners may apply for historic district designation. A historical society or property owner may apply for designation as a historic property.

    (c)

    Reports. The historic preservation commission shall prepare formal reports when nominating historic districts or local properties. These reports shall describe the historic, cultural, architectural, or esthetic significance of the place, districts, site, building, structure, or work of art proposed for designation as historic. The report shall be submitted to the historic preservation division of the state department of natural resources, which will be allowed 30 days to prepare written comments concerning the report.
